South San Antonio sees unprecedented growth thanks to Eagle Ford shale

KSAT -- While the north and west sides of San Antonio are booming, some might argue it is the south side that has seen the most explosive growth.

Business that began with the Toyota plant was followed by a hospital and Brooks City Base.

To top it all off, the Eagle Ford Shale has brought unprecedented economic impacts to the area.

Desert rainfall averages are 0" to 10" per year, only a tiny fraction of Texas (far West Texas) qualifies as arid. Even at that, drinking water has never been or currently is threatened by hydraulic fracturing that occurs 5,000 to over 10,000 feet below any aquifer.

It derives its name from the old community of Eagle Ford, now a neighborhood in West Dallas, where outcrops of the Eagle Ford Shale were first observed. Such outcrops can be seen in the geology of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex, and are labeled on images with the label "Kef".
