Push is on to Fuel Vehicles with Natural Gas

WNEP The News Station -- A natural gas boom in Pennsylvania is not only helping to heat homes, but it can also help fuel cars and trucks!

The push is on to get companies to switch to natural gas vehicles and to build fueling stations.

CNG stands for compressed natural gas. These days, it’s cheaper than gasoline you use in whatever you drive, and the hope is to make CNG the fuel of the future for cars and trucks in Pennsylvania.

Marc Schefsky of Genetti Hotel and Suites showed off the company’s new shuttle van outside the natural gas vehicle seminar at Penn College.

In the tank of that van is compressed natural gas, or CNG, and Schefsky said it’s saving the hotel on fuel costs, but for now, there’s nowhere close by to gas up.

MAC48 Champion Author Dallas Posts:1,549 Points:767,755 Joined:Dec 2006	Message Posted: Oct 19, 2012 2:32:39 AM Ignore MAC48 Report Abuse Bi-fuel vehicles where the driver can choose to use CNG or gasoline makes sense for the typical family. 100% CNG vehicles makes no sense for the typical family since the GNC refuelling infrastructure is so limited if it exist at all in almost all city and rural areas currently nationwide. 100% CNG does make sense for local delivery, busses, taxis, large city utility vehicles, city owned vehicles, fleet operators, etcetara where the vehicle is never or very rarely expected to leave the local area and the entity that owns the 100% CNG vehicles also owns or shares ownership of a CNG refuelling facility.

We used to have 15 CNG stations in our city 15 years ago but only one remains as people dumped their CNG vehicles at the autowreckers because they suck on the road!

Why didn't you just use fuel oil or propane or a wood-burning stove to heat your house? If you were enjoying lower heating costs all these years, why did you think you could keep this secret all to yourselves?

If you think CNG is a waste, then just keep driving gas. We'll all find out who's smarter in the end.

It will substantially increase demand for natural gas; which in turn will drive up the cost of natural gas delivered to homes and to power plants. Our home gas bills and electricity prices will skyrocket. If there is such an abundance of natural gas bills should be dropping like a rock.

Have two tanks and a switchover. This is more practical that switching between gas and diesel. That way you can use either fuel. Flex. Zero ethanol.

One our colleges has had the use of a gas powered vehicle also and the instructors like it. We'll see... : )
