Why should general aviation get a free ride?
Does that make them part of "the 47%" that conservatives keep harping on?

All piston aircraft, military aircraft, public aircraft, air ambulances, aircraft operating outside of controlled airspace, and Canada-to-Canada flights would be exempted. This fee would generate an estimated $7.4 billion over 10 years."
Excuse me but for all you folks flying Cessnas or other small aircraft, they fall under the piston aircraft wouldn't they?

An aditional tax on medical cargo flights - thought we were trying to keep medical costs down!

that is bull pucky. GA pilots can't afford that. The article is confusing does it only affect commercial ops or all private pilot flying?

If you can afford to own and operate a private airplane, you can afford the user fees!

The smaller airports would be impacted more by the fee as they would have more general aviation aircraft flying out of them than the larger airports.

That would be an EASY question to answer, Aviator_Rob. First you examine the U.S. Constitution and see which functions were delegated to the Federal government and ONLY those duties should be retained. Any other programs should be left to the States.

Airport properties are owned by the govt (for the most part), built and maintained by them, and they get reimbursed by renting space (hangars, etc.) and fees from service providers (fuel, maintenance on site, etc.). It takes the property off tax rolls... and that can be a substantial amount of property! Everything should pay its own way. That includes airports and public TV.

Good that will cut more jobs, because I will park my pilots license. Some of my flights would only be 100 miles or in training :( Bad for the economy and great if you are Al Quida

The Obama administration would rather raise taxes and fees than cut spending, that is why the economy is in the shape it is in.

If this "fee" is so insignificant, why not charge $10,000 or $100,000?
Let's face it. It is a tax that is not put in place to improve or pay for air cargo but the general fund.
Just say NOBAMA.

This is just another ploy for Obama to get more government control. Once the jobs are lost due to this taxation, the gov't will take over all flights.

RE: REKEY: "As much as FedEx flies and they don't pay anything!"
Read the second pararaph in the article; FEDEX IS commercial; they currently pay plenty for each and every flight.
There are lots of people who fly small planes ("GA") for sport or travel that make way under $250,000.
Obama claimed no "tax" increases for those under $200,000/$250,000 ; so they call it a "fee" instead.
Yet another LIE from the Dissembler In Chief!

More government means more taxes which equals more government and more taxes which equals more government and more taxes which equals more government and more taxes. Maybe we should cut and limit the salaries of those in government.
