Gas prices hit record high for labor day weekend Professor: We could see $4 a gallon soon

KFOX 14 EL PASO, Texas -- Gas prices set another record this Labor Day weekend.

GasBuddy.com reports, the national average for a gallon of gas is $3.80, the highest on record for the holiday weekend. The previous record high was $3.68 a gallon, set back in 2008.

Gas prices in El Paso have been steadily increasing over the past couple of weeks, right now lingering about $3.42.

Dr. Tom Fullerton, an economics professor at University of Texas at El Paso, said typically Labor Day weekend is the peak of gas prices and eventually leads to a drop off, but said that's not the case this year.

Fullerton is predicting gas prices will be knocking at the door of $4 a gallon in the coming weeks. That has El Pasoans adjusting their budgets.

Bozama says we are moving in the right direction - trying to "run on his record" but he can't. The republicans already are doing that. Elephants never forget. Jackasses never learn. 64 days until the ejection.

@bra0712 - no I don't accept it. If (all) the republicons and many democrats hadn't push this global crap, we wouldn't be bidding against China and India for our oil, gas and diesel.

@Math6149 - you're math doesn't add up.

Accept it and deal with it!??? Sounds like an executive from the industry, huh? I'm quite tired of accepting it - Americans are alll like that - short attention span and delighted when gas prices go down from this outrageously high level - I don't know what we as "the people" can do about it, but accept it, I AIN'T, even if all I can do is yell, grouse, complain, whatevah!

I am guessing since we use much less over the year and the price keeps going up, that trend will continue over time. They will push $4.00 in the spring again to test us and see if we will pay. All the while continuing to pump more and shipping it off as fuels to third world countries.

An earlier article on this site says that the reason for the high Labour Day prices was due to the hurricane. This article makes it seem like it was PLANNED to be higher - or is it any excuse to raise prices????????
