SHEP: Tu n'as pas encore compris? ;-)

Well, perhaps another reason is that since the Cdn dollar hit par, Cdns have seen how their getting shafted for new car prices compared to the US.
After checking very carefully at several dealers in 4 provinces, I bought a high end car in the US last year and even after duty taxes and various other fees, still figure I saved in the neighbourhood of at least 12-thousand or more. (AND, in spite of what they say up here, it was actually very easy and uncomplicated to do !!!!)
Plus the US dealers were a LOT more helpful! I know literally tens of thousands of cars were brought over in 2007, so perhaps that too is one reason why Cdn sales were down.

Perhaps auto sales would not be dropping, had they given us the technology to get 50+mpg that was developed in the 1980s!

Same here, I think it is the hard times. Let me rephrase that, I know it's from hard times, which it may become a lot harder, but it's not as easy as it used to be.

You'd think that someone would have come up with a higher mileage truck by now. Wasn't that the hot topic in the early 70's?

With gas prices these days, expect a lot of decline in sales. Especially on bigger vehicles.

If Detroit continues ignoring what customers want, before long there won't be any American auto companies left. Just Toyota, Honda, Volkswagen, etc.......

When you keep building cars that are inefficient, you will pay the price. I don't mean the car company execs, but the folks who actually build the cars. But then again there's the union who keeps on asking for more money so we end up having to raise the price of the cars as well as losing jobs to other countries anyways. No one really wins at the end.

Appearently, our lives are not centred around fuel and travelling. We have wisely built more flexibility in our budgets and finances than the US. However, it has gone to far even for us. So, we now have to cut back on our auto purchases and put the auto companies in the crapper. Oh well, it's not like they have done anything for us ever. It's just too bad that all those folks who work there are soon going to be unemployed.

Don't forget that Canada also raised taxes on fuel.
But taxes won't make that big of a difference. At least that is what Oba I mean the Messiah says.

Can't understand whyt it held up longer than the US...given gas was more expensive here a lot sooner. It's now $6.23+ /gal. Cdn. here in Toronto & 7.90 in populated parts of BC.

HIGH GAS PRICES EVERY WHERE HAVE KILLED THE SALES OF THESE VEHICLES. IT IS TOO BAD THAT EVERY TIME SOME THING LIKE THIS HAPPENS NO ONE CAN SEE IT COMING AND DOES ANY THING ABOUT IT. EXECPT THE JAPANESE WHO HAVE SMALLER CARS AND SELL MORE AT A TIME LIKE THIS.
