National average sets Labor Day record, relief coming

GasBuddy Blog -- The U.S. national average for gas prices has beaten another record: highest average ever on Labor Day. The previous record, $3.69/gal in 2008, has been toppled, much to the chagrin of millions of travelling motorists this weekend.

It wasn't easy getting to the new record, it took Hurricane Isaac, a refinery fire in California, a pipeline leak in Wisconsin, and several refinery issues in the Great Lakes, and somehow renewed economic optimism, but we're here- at a new record.

While motorists may believe it could get worse, we at GasBuddy forecast for the national average to begin dropping in the weeks ahead. Will relief come overnight? If only I was so naive. With the conclusion of the holiday today, it's back to work and...

Inventories are up, production driven down in order to continue to fleece the life out of this country. And still, the speculators, hedge fund managers, oil companies and anyone else who benefits from market manipulation are laughing their way to the bank to cash those checks! To make matters even more infuriating I have been noticing atleast around here that prices are as much as 20 cents higher than in some higher income areas. We cannot afford these prices, we are living on the same or even lower wages while the costs of living are way up so some oil person can make a record profit. It seems that no one cares or even wants to try to do something about it, while people are cutting back on everything causing consumer confidence to be lower and affecting paychecks. Honestly, I wish we could all together join and file a huge class-action lawsuit against those who have caused this economic repression and sue them for record amounts.

The US produced more oil than it consumed last year and will do the same this year yet we see that our prices are completely subjected to foreign oil price setting. Where's the American clout? It appears we brought a knife to a gun fight once again.
