The lawyers are staged to make bundles of cash off the Toyota problems.

it’s an elusive computer bug, - gotta’ find it and kill it, fast! But, fix that computer bug one moment and the next moment it’s back. Using wireless, electronic computer modules is not like the good physical connection made with a cable or other solid linkage. A cable is NOT affected by a bump in the road!

Toyota's denial of software problems sounds like the denials I've heard from every IT department and software vendor I've ever worked with in the past 35 years... there is likely some contingency that was not accounted for in the code.

They never teach any kind of emergency procedures in drivers ed today. When I was taking divers ed as a youngster, we learn how to handle exactly this situation.

But there IS an explanation. CA can't afford their liberalistic society, so they want Toyota to pay for some of it!

There have been previous instances when the driver, whether a young driver or an older senior citizen, is initially distracted or becomes confused and is frantically pressing on the accelerator when they think they are hitting the brake (and so drive through the garage wall).

As I said before, the guy was speeding and to get out of paying for a ticket, he claimed the pedal was stuck.

They cannot duplicate the problem. So what does that prove? Nothing. It certainly does not mean there is no problem.

But even if no problem is ever found and fixed, the public market will solve their problem for them and not bother to buy a Toyota.

this is the best news toyota could hope for, no one can find what caused it, therefore it does not exist, let the media help them spin it a little to help ease the pain

This driver's story does sound a little suspicious but it does not discount the defects that exist with these Toyota built cars that have injured or killed people already.

HAL 9000 lives! Airbus has similar problems, mostly Pilot interface problems. Pilots are trained and drilled in Emergency procedures. Toyota owners should practice the E.P. that was released by Toyota a few weeks back. It could save your life.

I believe it was

Brakes
nuetral
steer to a stop

Look it up.

Since the CHP said he could hear the brakes when he was along side the car I believe something was wrong. We may never know the full story here but that does not change the other people who have died or been injured in a Toyota in the last three years due to this problem.

This guy sped out of control for 20 minutes. I have a tough time believing he was properly trying to get the car under control. Even if the gas pedal did malfunction -- the brakes, emergency brake, transmission and ignition did not all malfunction at the same time. This person is either a stupendous idiot who shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel again, or he is a liar.

I find it difficult to believe that people (not just this example) would drive at 90+mph and run into something unmovable, risking death to themselves or a loved one, to stage a hoax.

According to the latest news report I heard on radio this morning, there was little to no wear on the brake pads on that Prius.

If this guy was standing on his brakes at 94 mph, wouldn't you expect to see just a little wear, and some scoring???

If the report is true, it seems that at least this case was staged - for whatever reason.

And as a systems developer, let me say that just because one cannot recreate an error in the lab, it doesn't mean that the error doesn't exist. It just means the error cannot yet be diagnosed, because a factor that causes the error hasn't been included in the test.

But understand that if the error can be created under no conditions, there are no remedial steps that can be taken.

If the NHTSA is not able to find a problem with the system by the time they finish their examination, it will support Toyota's claim that they can not find a problem with the electronics.

If no one can duplicate the problem under real world operating conditions, then Toyota will not know what to fix.

They must be pretty stupid if they can't tell that this moron staged this incident. I could disprove it real quick if they would allow me to test the car for them. A human being can override a computer if they think real quick.

Not the Toyota stuff again. Toyota has a problem, or problems, and they need to fix them correctly the first time they work on those cars.

Yes and a software glitch that randomly occurs is even harder to track down. The workers for Toyota have one thing going for them, their lives. If this happened in China their would be heads rolling all over the place.

What is common between the Camery and the Prius? Some software is common.

Hmmm. But software bugs can be Very hard to find. Doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

They should test it in the area where the incident happened. Maybe there are radio signals, cell site signals or whatever that affects the electronic box of the Toyota vehicles.
